SOCIAL MEDIAWhatsApp Now Allows Users to Mark a Message as Read Without Reading

WhatsApp Now Allows Users to Mark a Message as Read Without Reading. WhatsApp has started rolling out one cool feature for its Android beta users. Dubbed “Mark as Read”, the feature allows you to mark a message as read right from the notification panel.

In simple words, you do not have to open the message to let your friends know that you have read their messages. You can simply tick mark the Mark as read button in the notification and it will show your message as read on the sender’s side. Say your read receipt (blue ticks) is activated, in this case, your friend will see the blue ticks indicating that the message has been read.

Note that the feature is available only in beta version now. Also, only Android beta users can avail this feature for now. The stable version is expected soon. To become a beta user, subscribe to the WhatsApp beta programme.
The new Mark as Read will appear as an option in the notification panel when you receive any message. Simply tap the Mark as read option and your friend will see their sent messages as read. Once you mark a message as read it will disappear from the notification panel. However, you can still reply to messages from the notification.

There were reports that WhatsApp may launch only one of these two features. The Mute chat feature hasn’t been launched in even beta yet so there are chances that WhatsApp may never launch this feature.

WhatsApp is also working on another feature that lets you mute messages from the notification panel. As the name suggests, the feature basically mutes contacts with more than 51 unread messages.
WhatsApp has started rolling out the much-awaited group calling feature for all. The feature allows you to make group voice or video calls to your friends. You can add up to four people at once.

WhatsApp is also testing Suspicious Link Detection feature aimed at curbing the spread of fake news. The feature will add a red alert sign to forwarded web links leading to a fake or alternative site. The company recently also rolled out the forwarded label to check on the spread of fake news, especially in India which serves as one of the biggest markets for the app.
